“He had a tough night, Hazel,” she said. “His heart is working too hard. He needs to scale back on activity. Wheelchairs from here on out. They’re putting him on some new medicine that should be better for the pain. His sisters just drove in. this excerpt from chapter 15 is the scariest. I thought that he was about to die but thank God he didn’t, he gets to stick around with Hazel for a while. I admire how strong Gus’s mother is and how she’s always so calm. I really hope that the pain medicine works because it must be very difficult for Hazel and his family to watch him go through so much pain. If I were Hazel I would try to spend as much time with him as I could. I also would’ve given him a chance a lot sooner so that there won’t be any regrets or anything. Later on this page his mother tells Hazel that she can’t see because it’s family time, if I were her I would’ve taken offense to that because as long as they’ve been talking Hazel should be family by now. If he was dying I’m pretty sure that his last wish would’ve been to see Haze. Anyway my prayers go out for Gus and his family. And if I were hazel I would’ve politely told Gus’s mother off. I hope that when he gets out they take advantage of the little bit of time he has left and they show each other love.
ReplyDeleteThe quote that stands out to me best is stated “You know we love you, Hazel but right now we just need to be family”. This quote stands out to me because it shows that something must been really wrong with Gus since he only wanted family to be there. Or it could be that Augustus didn’t want Hazel to see the condition he was in. But isn’t Hazel like family? Her and Gus did everything together every since they first met. And they’re in a relationship. So I wonder why Gus didn’t want Hazel to see how he was doing. Hazel was upset to hear what Augustus mom told her. I would’ve been upset to because when she was in the hospital he came to visit her to she how he was doing. So I guess she wanted to do the same thing. Anyway if I was Hazel I would’ve been very upset not to see Augustus because I want to hear from him how he’s doing. I would want to hear how he is feeling far as the chest pain and how it’s being treated. I would be so nosey because it’s about someone I love and would never want to loose. So I basically feel the same way how Hazel feel. There wasn’t really much to say since the chapter was so short.

The quote I chose was “Some infinities are bigger than others.” I chose this quote because Hazel is feeling some type of way when she was talking to her dad. Some infinity last longer than others. For example, Augustus and Hazel infinity doesn’t last because of their sickness. Hazel and Augustus want their infinity to last but Augustus is on the edge of dying and Hazel is slightly dying. They have a love infinity that will be ruined by cancer (illness). I can reflect on this quote because I believe nothing last long and everything will come to an end one day. This happened to me too. I thought that my crush for a boy I use to like would last forever but when I found out that he didn’t feel the same way I thought I would be hurt forever but a week later I got over it and moved on. I realized that life moves on whether you believe it or not time waits for no man. “Last time I imagined myself as the kid. This time, as a skeleton.” I chose this quote because it symbolizes death for Hazel. Now that she has cancer she can she not see herself as a normal human being anymore. All she sees is skeleton imagines of her from when she has cancer until now. I am glad that she knows she dying but doesn’t let it get the best of her or brings her down she just lives like every day is her last.
ReplyDeleteThe quote I chose from chapter 15 says "She went down the hall, back to where he was. I understood, but I still missed him, still thought maybe I was missing my last chance to see him, to say good-bye or whatever." I chose this quote because I feel that Hazel knew that Augustus was going to die, even though he didn't. The way she said "still thought maybe I was missing my last chance to see him, to say good-bye or whatever". I feel like she said it very calmly like she knew it was about to happen. I'm glad Gus did not die because Hazel and Gus are making the book right now. I feel that sooner or later, something will happen to Gus but I think they will die together. Right now, I could not imagine the book or life for Hazel without Augustus. I have created lives for Hazel and Augustus outside of the book. It keeps me wanting to read on and on. I admire their relationship because they have a funny way of talking to each other and they are very weird. Showing that, I chose another quote from chapter 15, Gus: “Yes, precisely. It tastes like food, excellently prepared. But it does not taste, how do I put this delicately . . . ?” Me: “It does not taste like God Himself cooked heaven into a series of five dishes which were then served to you accompanied by several luminous balls of fermented, bubbly plasma while actual and literal flower petals floated down all around your canal-side dinner table.” Gus: “Nicely phrased.” Gus’s father: “Our children are weird.” My dad: “Nicely phrased.” I love this scene because it was like Augustus and Hazel connected in a way which no one understood but them, I love that about them.
ReplyDeleteThe quote that stands out to me the most was “When the elevator doors opened on the fourth floor, I saw Gus‘s mom pacing in the waiting room, talking on a cell phone. She hung up quickly, then hugged me and offered to take my cart. “I’m okay,” I said. How’s Gus?” “He had a tough night Hazel.” She said. “His heart is working too hard. He needs to scale back on activity. Wheel chairs from here on out. They’re putting him on some new medicine that should be better for the pain. His sisters just drove in. ““Okay,” I said.” Can I see him?” She put her arm around me and squeezed my shoulder. It felt weird. “You know we love you, Hazel, but right now we just need to be a family. Gus agrees with that. Okay? ”Okay,” I said. “I’ll tell him you visited.” “Okay,” I said. “I’m just gonna read here for a while, I think.” She went down the hall, back to where he was. I understood, but I still missed him, still thought maybe I was missing my last chance to see him, to say good-bye or whatever. (pg. 231-232). This quote stood out to me because that is very shocking to go to having jokes at dinner plus having fun and the next day your chest just has horrific pain that causes you to go to the ER. To tell the truth I don’t think Augustus mother is liking Hazel based on how Augustus has change. I think that is very childish of the mother to not let Hazel see Augustus and then uses Augustus by saying Gus would agree with that when he would not, because everyone knows that Augustus would have wanted to see Hazel, and I think Gus’s mother has a grudge on Hazel.
ReplyDeleteA qoute i like is " my dad: nicely phrased
ReplyDeleteGus:it taste like ....
Me:food". I like this i like how hazel and her family is spending time with gus knowing he is dieing. Another quote i like is "the last time i imagined myself as a kid this time a skeleton." I like this qoute because this is when gus notice hw is dying.

ReplyDeleteIn this chapter hazel and Augustus have dinner with there families. At dinner they crack jokes about how the food there eating doesn't taste like the food they ate at Amsterdam together. I thought that was funny. A few days later agustus is rushes to the hospital. I felt bad hazel was going through this once again. When she went to try and see Agustus , Gus moms says she loves hazel and that she could not see him because they needed to be a family. I did not get Gus reasoning behind that. In my opinion one visit would hurt. My favorite line was when hazel responded to Gus mother saying "okay" . It reminded me of how hazel and Gus always says okay and it's like there famous line. This reminded me of when hazel was in the emergency room and Gus came to see her . It's really cute how they support one another. A few days later the go to the park and drink champagne out of Winnie the Pooh cups. This was very ironic because most people drink champagne out of fancy glasses . I hope Gus gets well because he seems really down . For instance at the park and he said he was a skeleton. He knows he may die. He changed a lot when cancer got back in his system . He's more pessimistic and negative than he ever was in the book
A quote that I like from chapter 15 is "It seemed like forever ago, like we'd had this brief but still infinite forever. Some infinities are bigger than other infinities." This is my favorite quote from chapter 15 because it tells how Hazel and Augustus are soon dying but since they've been talking to each other it seemed like forever. Although Hazel and Augustus haven't been talking for 7 years or even 5 years they still have a short infinity because they are going to spend the rest of their lives together and it might not seem like a long time to other people, it is a long time for Augustus and Hazel. I think this is a cute quote because they haven't been together long, but they have been together long enough to notice that they want to be together for the rest of their lives, even though the rest of their life is only like 1 year left. Most couples take about 4 years to notice that they have an infinity together but Hazel and Augustus only been together for about 4 months and realized that they have an infinity just like every other couple, even though theirs isn't as long as other couples.
ReplyDeleteIn chapter 15 a line that stood out to me was "Gus father: are children are weird." I like this line because my mom tells me im weird all the time. I've been told that by many. Being weird isn't a bad thing it makes you who you are. I think im weird and I laugh when people tell me I am.
ReplyDeleteAnother quote that I like is " It seemes like forever ago , like we'd had this brief but still infinite forever. " I like this quote because its cute. Hazel and Gus only knew each other for a quite some time but not long. While they been together it feels like forever. Even though its a short time it feels like a life time.
These two quotes stand out to me. The first one I can relate to a lot. The second line I can just a lil but Hazel and Gus have something going.

DeleteThe quote I chose from Chapter 15 wasas “Some infinities are bigger than other infinities." I picked this quote because it was complex, but original in its very own way. I understand what Hazel means when she says them. The word infinity in my opinion means something that last forever or is continuous. I may be wrong when I say this , but I believe that all things have to end at a certain point in time. For instance, life ends at certain time, but love doesn't. Love will continuously live within the memories of the dead and the hearts of the living. I believe that the infinity that Hazel was referring to was love. The love that Hazel and Augustus shared wasn't very long, but it will last forever within the two. Some may say that life lives in the afterlife, but only the deceased can determine that. No living person has experienced ife after death because, in my opinion, life isn't everlasting. The feelings and the memories are what lasts forever.
ReplyDeleteI picked the quote when hazel goes to the hospital and she says " I was missing my last chance to see him(augustus), to say good-bye." I think what hazel think is that she thinks augustus is about to die. I also think that she is thinking that way because I think hazel is starting to realize how much she loves augustus. because before she knew he had cancer she was so rude to him. but I think now that she found out that she know he have cancer she's starting to realize they are not different.
ReplyDeleteQuote: “last time I imagined myself as the kid time the skeleton.”
ReplyDeleteThe reason I pick this quote because it seems that Augustus is giving up on himself. I think what Augustus need to do is to think positive I can referred this to me because at first when I enter middle school I thought I wasn’t going to do good but once I got the hang of it I was making A’s and B’s and only one C. I was doing awesome all year and I got pass on to the next grade. So all I have to say don’t doubt you and keep on striving for greatness and don’t keep yourself in the gutter, preserver until it comes true.
"i was missing my last chance to see him, to say good-bye."
ReplyDeletethis quote gets my attention because hazel feels as thought that she didn't get to say her last good-bye before Augustus dies. Also i really like this quote because as though she really love Augustus she wants to be there before her dies and that is what rue love is all about. Hazel loves Augustus and doesn't want to see him die.
" you know we love you hazel but right now we just need to be a family" this quotes stands out to me because i understand that they need to be a family but i don't get that either. Hazel and Augustus are lovers and so i think that hazel is part of the family now. i think that Gus mom could have let hazel in the family meeting so that she can see Gus even if this is the last time that anybody would ever see him again.

Chapter 15
ReplyDeleteIn this chapter, Hazel and her parents have dinner at Augustus house with his parents. Then, a few days later Gus was sent to the hospital, Hazel went to go and see him and his parents said that they loved but Gus should not see her because he need to be with family at that time and her that she would tell that she had visited. So Hazel decides to sit in the waiting room and think about the times that they have shared together. Sometime later, they go to the art park and drink champagne from Winnie-the-Pooh cups. "She went down the hall, back to where he was. I understood but I still missed him”, in this quote I think Hazel really misses Gus and knows he’ll die sooner or later.
--- Amia Gordy
The quote that caught my attention in this chapter was " Some infinities are bigger than other infinities." The reason I chose this quote is because its sounds incorrect in a mathematical term but make a lot of since when it comes literature and figurative language. This quote is interesting because even now I wonder, How can a infinity be bigger than another when they are both infinities? I think that this quote was basically saying that some events are more important than others. When you think about it in the story while Hazel is having her own problems with cancer her problem is not as big as Gus because is closer to meeting the end of his life so Hazel will have to think more about him because he is her true love. It’s kind of funny because she sees Gus as a number one priority even though she is dying herself.
ReplyDeleteThe quote I choose for ch. 15 is when Augustus and Hazel goes pass Funky Bones and Augustus says "Last time, I imagined myself as the kid. This time, the skeleton" I feel how Augustus feel, he has a disease that going to kill him and there is nothing no one can do. I'm not trying to say don't have faith, I'm saying that he have no chance in surviving for a very long period of time. Like Peter Van Houten said "Some infinities are bigger than other infinities". What Peter Van Houten was trying to say is some infinities just have more numbers. Even though Gus is saying this because he is depressed that he is about to die, but he doesn't know when. The only reason Gus is saying this because before his cancer came back he always thought of the past, now he thinking of the future. Now since Gus cancer came back and he told Hazel, he been more depressed than ever, since Gus was introduced in the beginning of the book. At the end of the book I really hope Gus and Hazel die by each other side.
ReplyDelete“I pointed at the little kids goading each other to jump from rib cage to shoulder and Gus answered just loud enough for me to hear over the din. Last time, I imagined myself as the kid. This time the, the skeleton.” What Gus means by this is when he was younger he was a kid so when he got older he could imagine his self as a kid doing those things during his child hood. But now that he imagines his self as a skeleton. He says a skeleton because his cancer as came back and its everywhere in his body so he knows he is going to die. This shows how Gus is like careless about life now he knows he is going to die so why even try to be that little healthy kid he once was. This is a flash back moment in the story it shows how Gus wants to be that kid that he used to be. Not the grown up cancer patient who’s cancer has come to haunt him. This time for good. - Ja'Von Barnes
ReplyDeleteIn chapter fifteen of the fault in our stars one of my favorite quotes was when Augustus mother says that "He has a tough night, Hazel," she said. “His heart is working too hard. He needs to scale back on activity. Wheelchairs from here on out. They're putting him on some new medicine that should be better for the pain. His sister just drove in." The reason I have chosen this quote is because this shows the feelings that his mother has and shows how much she Ares about him. I think that she does a lot of things for Augustus that the book doesn't point out but this shows the type of tough decision that his mother has to make for him. This quote also shows the struggles, efforts, and energy that Augustus has to use now just too probably walk around but now he can’t even walk without even killing himself.
ReplyDeleteAnother quote that I chose from chapter fifteen was we Augustus mother says "you know we love you, Hazel, but right now we just need to be a family. Gus agrees with that. Okay" The reason I chose this quote was because this shows the maturity that hazel has and understanding the whole family thing. Even though this quote is bout Augustus and his family this shows that his parents also may care a lot about Hazel.
The quote that I chose from chapter 15 that stood out to me was "Last time I imagined myself as the kid, this time the skeleton". I believe this quote means that when he went to the park he first imagined himself as one of the kids playing and having fun because his cancer was gone. Then went he went the second time after his cancer had came back he thought only about dying and wasn't worried about the kids. I chose this quote because it was dissapointing to see Augustus changed from a heroic, energetic person into a depressed cancer victim so quickly. T. Hogan
ReplyDelete, “Last time, I imagined myself as the kid. This time, the skeleton.” This is a quote from chapter 15 that stood out to me. I think the reason why this quote stood out to me was because it reminds me of when old people be like " Child i remember when i was your age i couldn't wear stuff like that nor dance like that, we would be reading books and if we don't we would have to do the airplane." But i know that it means something more then just that. It means when he was at the swing set he was thinking about the pass when he never had cancer but now its like a whole different story.
ReplyDelete“You say you’re not special because the world doesn’t know about you, but that’s an insult to me. I know about you.”Augustus feels that he isn’t special because no one knows that he’s sick and is dying except Hazel and his family. Hazel says that’s an insult to her because she care so much for Augustus. Augustus family cares so much for him. Hazel comes over every day to make sure he knows that someone cares, Hazel spends time with Augustus so that he won’t feel like he’s alone. Augustus says the world doesn’t know about him, but the world doesn’t know about him exactly. The organizations that are set up to help people/children with cancer know about people like Augustus and try to raise money to find a cure. The hospital he goes to for treatment and the doctors that help him know about him and care about him.
