The quote that stands out to me is “My mouth tasted horrible, and I tried to keep it shut for fear of poisoning the airplane (pg.155). This quote stood out to me because Hazel really had consideration about her hot and stinky breathe. This quote also stands out to me because it was funny when I read it, it remind me to think about my mother because she is always considerate about drinking all the juice or eating all the fruit. It also stands out to me because it made me think about the inconsiderate people who don’t brush their teeth well, and they start talking to you and put you in a disturbing and uncomfortable position to say “YOUR BREATHE STINKS”. Another quote that stands out to me is “Are these houses very old?” asked my mom. “Many of the canal houses date from the Golden Age, the seventeenth century,” he said. “Our city has a rich history, even though many tourists are only wanting to see the Red Light District (pg.157). This quote stood out to me because the fact that a house could stand up for 3 centuries is great that means the structure that was made back then was very strong, but the best thing is the house is on a boat that’s the amazing part. Plus the taxi driver said they have a rich history, to me, I thinking that their goods and resources had the correct ingredients to build the boat houses or canals and have the correct support needed.
ReplyDeleteThe quote that I like is " it would be a privilege to have my heart broken by you!" This is my favorite quote because it shows how much Augustus likes Hazel and how he would rather be with her and get his heart broken, then for him to break her heart. This is funny because even though Augustus had his heart broken by his EX girlfriend ( Caroline ) he still tells Hazel that he would like it if she broke his heart. I have never had this experience because no one wants someone to break their heart if they really love the person, so when Augustus says this, I cannot really connect with him. I wonder if Augustus knows that Hazel is soon gonna die, so he's preparing for a heartbreak from her. Augustus probably thinks that since Hazel is so gorgeous then her breaking his heart will be a real accomplishment for him, probably because he hasn't had a girl as beautiful as Hazel or he was probably just being sarcastic. When Augustus says this, I begin to think he has no feelings because no one would want someone to break their heart, simply because it hurts to get your heart broken by someone you love.

ReplyDelete" In freedom most people find sin." A qoute from TFIOS Chapter 11 that stood out to me the most. " Sometimes you have to pay a price for freedom." A qoute from Dr. Kevorkians documentary that i belive connected with the qoute from chapter 11. The first qoute means that when you do something good most people find it bad, and the second one realates to it because it means sometimes you have to do things to prove people wrong but they still wont belive you. Another qoute that really didn't mean anything to me but i could connect to it. It was "...play harps, and live in mansions made of clouds." This is exactly what i think of when i hear the word Heaven. I think of me eating grapes and i have wings with a white roman robe on.

“Gus and I glanced at each other, smiling.” This is my favorite quote because you can see how much they are meant for each other. I love this story so much but I’m starting to lose interest because nothing is really happening between them. I mean if she isn’t going to get with him she should stop leading him on and leave him alone. I feel like their time is running out and they don’t have a lot of time to be together for some odd reason. Hazel just doesn’t get how much he wants her and will do anything for her. If you have that much of a connection with someone and you guys have so much fun together then you guys should just be together and stop playing. Hey spend all this time together, for what? So they could stay “friends forever”. I’m pretty sure that’s not what they want so they should make it official. They even act like they’re together with their arguments. Why do they keep procrastinating? Hazel is doing wonderful with her meds so she can at least try to be with him on that level. I wonder how Gus’s health is because they don’t mention it that much in the story. I wonder why? If love is about taking a risk, then why doesn’t Hazel do it? What’s the worst that can happen? It’s not like they are going anywhere because they probably have the same doctor. I don’t even know anymore I just want them to be together.
ReplyDeleteA qoute I like is "everyone want to lead a extraordinary life". I like this qoute because I think you should live life to the fullest.You should go with a positive legacy. Another qoute I like is " it would be a privilege my heart broken by you". I like this qoute because augustus is sweet to say that to hazel. That was sweetest thing augustus said to hazel. The thitd qoute I like is " the about dead people .... The thing is you sound like a bastard if you dont romantize them , but the truth is conplicated". I like this qoute because its the truth. the truth is not always right

ReplyDeleteIn this quote, Augustus expresses how he believes that legacies are very pivotal to the nature of life. He believes that the purpose of life is to make a difference and be remembered for it, and if you don’t make a change then your life didn’t mean anything. It doesn’t have to be phenomenal or historical, but at least change something in someone’s life. Legacies are simply the works you leave behind in this world and are greatly remembered for. It could either be pessimistic or optimistic, but leaving your footprint behind in the sand resembles who you were as a person. The great works that you did or the tragic you’ve caused can be a blessing or lesson to the world. Live or die for something, don’t just live every day because you have breath in your body, make a change. Augustus believes that legacies are the only pieces of you left in this world and you should make it worthy of being honored or remembered by someone. He knows he has a clock over his head, but he doesn’t know when it will strike twelve, therefore everyday he does something positive to or for someone. Every day he does something that he can exchange his life for and be proud of.

i don't agree with Augustus when he says what life is living. Augustus think you need to do something heroic to be remembered and if you don't do that heroic thing your life is worthless. i don't agree with this because i think anyone can be remember they don't need to do anything heroic they just need to be themselves. that is why i don't agree with augustus on that quote because i think everyone can be remembered.

ReplyDeleteIn this chapter, Hazel and friends has entered the Netherlands, they take a cab ride to a really fancy hotel and when they get there Hazel goes and takes a nap, when she wakes up her mom tells her, she has dinner reservations with Augustus--alone. They go on a date to super fancy restaurant called Oranjee where they have champagne. They have never had champagne before but they really enjoyed it and had two glasses. Augustus and Hazel has a conversation about the afterlife and then they have a discussion on living a life worth living. After they finished eating they take a walk during the walk Hazel asks Gus about Caroline, he tells her all about his relationship with her and how she was actually really mean to him and that he couldn't tell if it was her real personality or if it was her brain tumor which changed her personality. Hazel feels bad for him and says that she would never do that to him, but he says it would be a privilege to have his heart broken by Hazel. I like this chapter, because I like when Hazel and Gus get some time alone. When they are alone the have funny, sad, depressing and personal conversations.

The quote that stuck out to me in Chapter 11 is " I believe in the conversation of souls. The oblivion fear is something else, fear that I won't be able to give anything in exchange for my life." I like this quote because I can actually understand and relate to it. I believe that life is a gift from God and in return I should use my life to better other people's lives. Everyone doesn't have that option of having the ability to leave a legacy. A legacy doesn't have to be grand or spectacular but something that can be remembered about me. I never really thought about leaving a legacy until reading The Fault in Our Stars. I felt like Augustus was indirectly speaking to the audience when he said that “If you don’t live a life in service of a greater good, you’ve gotta at least die a death in service of a greater good, you know? I didn't quite know whathe meant by this until I rephrased the quote. In my own words I said " If you live a care free life there will be a point in time you impact the lives of others before you die." I'm not sure if I rephrased that right but it's the only way I will understand. The known saying is a mind is terrible thing to waste but so is a life. A life wasted in my opinion was never a life to start with. Life is like a choice or a path as some say. No matter what path you choose its up to you to make the best of that decision. What you do on your road in life will soon become someone else's influences or path in life. Everyone has a mind if their own but we all influence each other. I don't neccesarily know how I will leave my legacy. I just want to be known for the words of knowledge and wisdom that I showed people.

And I fear that I won’t get either a life or a death that means anything.” stands out to me. This quote is important because Augustus is right but also wrong about this. Augustus is right about this quote because in my opinion everyone should live a life that will have a meaning behind it. I wouldn't want to live a life knowing that throughout my whole lifetime I didn't do one thing that I can see being my legacy in life. For example I right poetry not only for the fun of putting my thoughts down in a poetic way but also because I know when I read between the lines of my poetry I see my true self. I can see who I am what significance I hold for myself and my love ones and the others I care about. Yes some may not be the best but poetry is something that is made not only from your thoughts but from deep within, your heart. But I also disagree with Augustus because even though everyone should live with a purpose and carry out a legacy in my opinion I also think it is not a must. If you can then try to make something of yourself but if you can't its ok. As long as you feel comfortable knowing what you did was right you will not need to care about your effect on others in your legacy.

I wanted to not be a grenade to not be a malevolent force in the lives of people I loved.” I think this quote means that Hazel doesn’t want Augustus to get hurt by her dying and she doesn’t want to be bad impact in her loved ones lives. She doesn’t want to ruin their lives with her dying and she knows that she doesn’t really have that long to live so she is trying to make the best out of the time she has. This quote is mortality because it talks about death. Another quote I chose was “Everyone wants to lead an extraordinary life.” I chose this quote because Augustus thinks that everyone should leave a legacy behind when they die it doesn’t have to be a big legacy it can be the littlest thing that makes you smile. For example, my great aunt is creating her legacy because on January 31 was the day she turned 98 years old. Hazel feels that leave a legacy is really not important really. I think Hazel is wrong because everybody should be remembered by something rather than nothing.

ReplyDeleteThe quote I chose was “I wanted to know that he would be okay if I died. I wanted to not be a grenade to not be a malevolent force in the lives of people I loved.” Well Ms. Hall I had chosen this quote from the text because it made me think about Caroline, Augustus ex girl friend and how she died and put Augustus through that depression. I also think that Hazel wants to leave a special and good legacy with just her and Augustus along with her parents. This quote shows that Hazel really cares about Augustus and doesn't wan’ts to hurt him again but she also wan'ts to be able for him to be normal and still date after she dies and for him not to be sad for the rest of his life. Hazel says that she doesn't wan’ts to be a malevolent force in the lives of people. I think she means by that is that she doesn't want to be a sad or bad memory that would be heartbreak to people when they think about her.

ReplyDeleteA line I liked in chapter eleven was "my mouth tasted horrible, and I tried to keep it shut for fear of poisoning the airplane. " I liked this quote because it's funny. I never really heard of somebody saying something like that about them selves. Another line I liked is "Gus and I glanced at each other, smiling. " I like this line because you can see and feel that they have something between them. The thing I don't like is that they keep playing around. They know they really like each other. They both need to make progress in this "relationship. " Are Gus and Hazel together? To me I think they are but I'm not sure. I know the really like each other and their very close. Is there more to that? They know that they love each other why are they wasting time. Time is going by and anything could happen. They just need to be together. Its kind of annoying to see two people that clearly wants to be together but their not. They can't just be friends they have to be more than that. I understand that Hazel might die, but she should be happy.
