  1. The quote I chose for my chapter 8 journal states "You realize that trying to keep your distance from me will not lessen my affection". I chose this quote because I love the relationship that Hazel and Augustus have. I love Augustus's affection and determination for Hazel. This quote shows how Augustus really feels for Hazel and I also think it reflects young love. It reminds me that anyone can fall in love. This quote shows me how anyone, with any defects, any problems, can be in love. I also think this quote reflects the theme "Love triumphs over hardships" because during the novel, Augustus has became someone that Hazel can talk to and can call on when she needs him and he will be there for her. I am glad that Hazel has someone she can talk to instead of he parents because she really needs it, to take her mind off of her Cancer all the time. She speaks and talks negativity a lot, and she needs someone to make her feel like she can overcome her cancer and every day is a new day. Another quote I chose for my chapter 8 journal says "MOM, I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!" I chose this quote because it made me happy when I read it. It reminded me of me and my mother's relationship and how much I love my mother. Hazel says this because her mother tells her that the trip to Amsterdam is back on because her doctor said it was okay. This quote is moving because instead of Hazel saying her mother is "hovering over her" she tells her she loves her.

The author states " Desperately Lonely Swing-set Needs a Loving Home" this means that Hazel is Comparing the swing-set to her childhood and how it was hard for her because she had cancer and it creates the theme of "growing up isn't easy" she feels like her childhood will affect the rest of her life.

  2. A qoute Iliked is I don't want to be a mom anymore". Hazel know her parent don't have a lot of money, and quit their jobs for her, by hearing her mother sat that was hard for her to hear. A second quote l liked is " I should've just taken you straoght from funk bones to Amsterdam". I like this quote, because this show Agustus realky care for Hazel. He wanted them both to spend time, with each other, but Hazel is sick, so he is disapponited with the results. Agustus is caring for everyone, he just want things to.go right, even if Hazel is sick.

  3. In this chapter hazel is home again and feeling better. She has her BiPAP so she should be fine. I like how she is so chill and relaxed. There wasnt alot of favorite parts of this chapter for me. My least favorite part is that she cannot go to amsterdan because her and he rdoctors had a meeting and they decided that she should not go. Ithink that agustus will be upset and m,ad at hazel. if hazel doesn;t go he wont go. in this chapter nothing big really happens. She plans to call perter andf tell him shes cancelling going to amsterdan which is sad. I feel so bad for h.g. This was her dream and cancer is in the way of yet another thing she really wants bad.

  4. “You realize that trying to keep your distance from me will not lesson my affection you,” he said. This line shows how much he cares and adores Hazel. I really enjoy when the get together. When I get older I want someone like Augustus. I want someone who loves and cares about me through anything. This line clearly shows the theme love triumphs through hardship. Through everything Hazel has been through Augustus is still there with her and he is not going anywhere. I really predict that Hazel is going to get better and they are going to get married, have kids and live happily ever after. I really think Hazel loves him she just won’t admit it. I don’t see what the problem is if he doesn’t care about her possibly dying then she shouldn’t. Like I always say they should just be together. If he could love her through cancer then he can love her through anything and she should just accept it. This is a big conflict in the book. This is Man vs. Man. I say this because she continues to think she is going to hurt him but she won’t because he’s already been through it so he can handle it. If I were in Hazel shoes I would protect him to but I won’t be all isolated like she is. Maybe when Hazel gets better she will give him a chance. I can’t wait to see what happens in the rest of the story. I hope hazel will let go and be happy.

  5. A little time with someone
A short amount of time is not better than no time. Why have 20 minutes with the love of your life? You will be heartbroken after he says those three words and he/she dies. An example is my god sister. After two months of life she died of crib death and my god mother was very heartbroken. Any mother would be. But My god mother couldn't have kids and when she got pregnant the doctors was astonished. She couldn't have kids. It was an one in a million chance and she did it. It was absolutely certain that my god sister was going to be an only child. It is still weird when she calls for Mothers Day. That is one example. Another one is Jack and Rose. ( if you don't know who im talking about please watch Titanic its good.) They loved each other. They met and after a few days they fell in love. Many would say that this example is faulty but I beg to differ because the plot of them was based on a true story. That story gives us an idea on how love works. You could meet someone and fall in love with them in under 30 seconds. Its called love at first sight. But anyways a short time with someone is worthless. If you met someone you would be able to find out if they are worthy of your time and then you start to have some type of feelings towards them if its love, hate or sympathy.

  6. The swing set in this chapter is an important symbol in this chapter. The swing set is an important symbol because it gives you a look into the memories of Hazel Grace. In the story you can see how Hazel remember the time as a child when she was healthy and considered normal because she didn't have cancer. The swing set is a powerful symbol used by John Green because it shows that there was a time when Hazel was happy with her life instead of how she feel about her cancer fighting life now. Hazel still has a lot to learn. When you think about Hazel is starting to take control of her life and do what she want to do like the metaphor Augustus mentioned during the first chapter of the book. Hazel is starting to learn that it's not the cancer that suppose to control her life it is her alone that can control what she do. Well her and her doctors that make the decisions on whether or not she can do things like go to Amsterdam. I think that Hazel will make even more progress of taking control of her life and she live more and become more wise about herself and the world she live in. Only Hazel the make the final decisions that will lead to her fully understanding what she need to do in her life. Besides the entire book is very interesting and I look forward to reading and understanding more about Hazel.

  7. A quote I like is when Hazel says "she causes all her parents suffering." I like this quote because all Hazel Is saying that just because she has cancer Hazel thinks that her parents are upset and mad because of her. I think that is not why her parents are upset I think Hazel needs to realize that her parents really love her and I think that Hazel needs to stop blaming her problems and other people problems on her cancer.

  8. Chapter 8:
Your cancer is not going away Hazel.
This is bad because Hazel is an interesting character in the novel and how we know that her cancer is staying not going away we do not know when she is going to die and that very sorrow. I think that person should have broken it down more easily because she was fighting to get this disease off your shoulder how she is going to Amsterdam. Now that she finally knows her cancer is staying she is going to do everything that she can possible do before she dies. In addition, this is sad because she was striving and she is a brave character throughout the whole novel

  9. I chose the quote " Desperately Lonely Swingset Needs Loving Home." I chose this quote because it's a symbol of Hazel's childhood. This shows Hazel's feelings after she comes from the hospital. She feels very depress. Then she looks up in the sky which is gray nd cloudy that makes her feel even worse. Her and her dad use to play all the time on that old swingset. That swingset plays a major role in her childhood. She feels depressed looking at the swingset because it makes her remember the good times she use to have and what she could do before she had cancer. Then Augutus shows up and she feels better around him that's when her and Augutus post a sell online for the swingset and then she gets a email saying that a men wants to buy the swingset for his kids.

  10. A quote that I like from chapter 8 is "As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly and then at once." I like this quote because it tells how she fell in love with him, just by the way he slept. This quote relates to this movie that I saw because this girl fell in love with this boy just by the way he walked, like she had a huge crush on him so, everything that he did made her fall in love even more. These two connections relate because they both tell how something that somebody does can make you like them even more. From this quote I can feel a connection with me and Hazel because just because Hazel has an disease we both are similar and even though she never really liked boys before, she still reminds me of myself when I have a crush on a boy. This quote also relates to my life because when I first had a crush on a boy I loved the way he would smile, even though this is normal to like someone's smile, I simply fell in love with his. A simple thing that someone does, like breathing a certain way can simply make someone fall in love. Since Hazel never really liked a boy before, everything that Augustus is doing is making her get butterflies and she is beginning to fall in love with him, but she never felt nothing like this before because she never liked a boy as much as she likes Augustus..... well loves him.

  11. The symbols in this chapter stood out more than the quotes of the characters. One symbol was the sky which symbolized depression. Another was the swing set. The swing set seemed to stand out a lot because it was old, useless and created by her dad. Hazel probably disliked the swing so much because she saw the swing set as herself. She was created by her dad and she has cancer so she probably feels useless and ready to be thrown away.

  12. "No use wasting good lungs on a hopeless case. I nodded, trying not to look like that comment hurt me."
Hazel's statement is really sad. It just shows how low she thinks of herself and her case. She feels like she isnt even worth a shot or that she's so bad that the best lungs couldn't anything to benefit her. Then, the next few words that escapes her lips is a very common and profound statement. Many teens live by that phrase every single day. When you're in a vulnerable situation, and someone unintentionally says a sensitive statement and you react based on your personal connotations, you get very emotional. Instead of expressing that emotion, you cope with it in a denying way. You avoid your true feelings and try to ignore the comment. Most people, hide their emotions to prevent signs of weakness or to limit the level of pain that the comment really held. For example, a close friend experienced a hurtful and betraying situation. Instead of crying, she pretended to be the happiest person alive. She attempted with all her power to keep that artificial smile upon her face. Whenever anyone brought up the situation, the pain grew more aggressive and she tried harder to act as if it didnt bother her. Being as though she was so vulnerable, she instantly got defensive when anyone tried to interrupt her performance of being okay. It's discouraging to see that so many people despise expressing their feelings and feel as though that denying it is the best way to cope with their conflicts. It's okay to act on your emotions in public or at that moment. Don't hold it in and continuously lie to yourself to limit the pressure and pain. Release the energy, wipe your tears, internally cope with the situation, then get over it.

  13. Chapter 8:
"Mom I love you so much" Is a line I found in chapter eight. Everybody says this to their mom. Hazel said this to her mother because her mother was letting her go to Amsterdam. I say mom I love you when I want something it just to say it. Don't we all just love our mind, I know I do.
"The world is not a wishgranting factory." What do You think this quote means. To me this means that the world won't give you anything you ask for, not all your wishes come true. Everybody wants their wishes to come true but that's not how things work out. You may wish to win the lottery. That wish may never come true, you never know. You can't always keep your hopes up over a wish, life is funny. I don't wish for much because it's a waste of my time. I know majority of them would never come true.
Hazel's wish came true and she's very excited. She wished for something realistic and its coming true.
Love and wishes can be very tricky. In this case Hazel lives her mom, in many other cases people love other people. Love could trick you cabs smack you in the face, without you realizing. Wishing is extra tricky because you could wish for something and get opposite of what you wished for. There's a saying " be careful for what you wish for, you just might get it ." This saying means when you wish for something you might get it but not the way you wanted it.

  14. Chapter 8
One quote that stands out to me is “I felt a little better, I guess. Sleeping with the BIPAP all night made my lungs feel almost normal, although, then again. I did not really remember lung normality” (pg.114). This quote stands out to me because it kind of felt sad to me that you would forget how regular lungs feel without the tank and the tubes going inside of you. This quote also stands out to me because it would feel good to go to sleep knowing that nothing would happen to you while your sleep, it feels good to know that you wouldn’t have any tumor or breathing problems while your asleep. This quote also stands out to me because you get to have lungs that are close to being normal with the tubes. Another quote that stands out to me is “I hated hurting him. Most of the time, I could forget about it, but the inexorable truth is this: They might be glad to have me around, but I was the alpha and the omega of my parents’ suffering” (pg.116). This quote stands out to me because it says that you think that you’re the cause of your parents stress, it’s sad that you think that if you leave your parents, if you die your parents stress, worries, and sadness would just go away of course their going to be sad when she dies but they would not have the same sadness when Hazel was still alive and breathing.
