  1. “We live in a universe devoted to the creation, and eradication, of awareness. Agustus Waters did not die a lengthy battle with cancer he died after a lengthy battle with human consciousness, a victim-as you will be- of the universe’s need to make and unmake all that is possible.” This has to be the most beautiful post on that page because it came from her heart. She and GUS HAD THE TYPE OF LOVE THAT YOU ONLY FIND ONCE IN A LIFE TIME. I feel as though it shouldn’t have ended like that but it did and now she just has to start the long process of moving on. I like how she said he didn’t fight the battle of cancer he fought the battle of human consciousness. I think it means that she didn’t want everyone to remember him as a cancer kid but instead as someone who is more than that. I do have to agree with her when she said that they didn’t even make an effort to see hm. If they were his real friends they would’ve gotten in touch with him in some type of way. The universe does create things and then destroys them for no reason. Not only does it affect that one thing it affects the things around it. I remember when my grandmother passed away, her leaving put a BIG DENT in our WHOLE family. But luckily now we are almost back to a safe place and we are able to move on.

  2. This chapter is very sad because Augustus dies and Hazel doesn’t know how to deal with this. She only wants to talk to Gus and be with Gus but she can’t because he is no longer a human anymore he’s a bright angel in heaven above. The quote I chose for this very sad chapter was “We live in a universe devoted to the creation, and eradication, of awareness. Augustus Waters did not die after a lengthy battle with cancer. He died after a lengthy battle with human consciousness, a victim- as you will be- of the universe’s need to make and unmake all that is possible.” The universe gives and takes away. Augustus did die from cancer but he didn’t fight it he was just curious of what it would do to him that’s Hazel says he had a battle with consciousness of his thoughts in his mind. The sights of the cancer eating I’m up and the images of him dying were destroying his mind and body in the inside. The universe created some things then destroyed others and Gus was just happening to be one of the things that the universe took away. All of us will die someday waiting on it. Some may die before others but we will all meet again in this beautiful place called Heaven.

In this chapter sadly agustus waters dies. One quote is web. Hazel writes "he died a lengthy battle of human conscuioussness." This quote means slit compared to the other cliche quotes other wrote on his Facebook wall. This is ver sad. I feel bad for hazel . After he dies hazel gets comforted by her parents. I think hazel will be very depressed. It will seem weird for agustuses name to be on he support group death list. I hope hazel isn't next and beats her cancer. Its weird that hazel was afraid of dieng on agustus and he ended up dieng before her. He changed her life a lot and had a great effect on hazel. Though he didn't leave a legacy behind that everyone knows about I think he left a legacy on hazel. They shared a lot of memories. There was no happy part of this chapter. I learned that some e things are just out of your control. I wonder if hazels parents care as much because they really never really got to know agustus. I also feel bad that hazel has no one to talk to like Gus. I also think that hazel is strong for looking at the positives like its was his time and they will see one another in heaven .

  4. The quote that stands out to me best Is stated “Augustus Waters died eight days after his prefuneral, at Memorial, in the ICU, when the cancer, which was made of him, finally stopped his heart, which was also made of him”. This quote stands out to me best because it’s sad that Augustus has finally passed away. I mean the cancer was overpowering his body so it just gave up fighting. Now I say this was the most depressing chapter of the whole book because now Augustus is gone. He couldn’t fight cancer for too long so hid whole body just stop. The story wouldn’t be the same without him in it. All the characters wouldn’t be the same. Hazel wouldn’t have anyone to love, and Isaac wouldn’t have no one to call bastard. Augustus family wouldn’t have anyone to watch over. But Augustus is watching over them. Augustus was a funny and attractive teenager according to Hazel. He sort of gave Hazel life in my opinion. I say that because before Hazel and Augustus met, all Hazel did was stayed in the house. The only time she left the house was when she went to support group. She didn’t live her life like a normal teen would. Then when Hazel met the love of her life, she started going out more and actually went on a trip together. She always thought that she was the grenade of the relationship then she soon found out that they both were the grenade of the relationship. May Augustus Waters R.I.P

It wss shockibg that hazel now have to live a life without agustus.another quote i like is"she was just crying on the other end". I think this is another sad part.it is sad what gus parents have to deal with.

  6. "Augustus waters died eight days after his prefunereal"
I picked this quote because i think that Augustus knew that he was about to die sooner than every body had thought that he was. he wanted then to arrange the funeral that he would know what they would say. this quote is sad because he died a week later but i think he died happy knowing what they was going to say when he leave the earth. Finally I did call him. His phone rang five times and then went to voice mail. “You've reached the voice mail of Augustus Waters,” he said,
the clarion voice I’d fallen for. “Leave a message.” It beeped. i love this quote because hazels misses him so much that could do anything but want to hear the voice that she felt for. knowing that Augustus waters is died she still calls his phone and i think that is so romantic and heart warming.

  7. The quote that stood out to me the most was ”Augustus Waters died eight days after his prefuneral, at Memorial, in the ICU, when the cancer, which was made of him, finally stopped his heart, which was also made of him. He was with his mom and dad and sisters. His mom called me at three thirty in the morning. I’d known, of course, that he was going. I’d talked to his dad before going to bed, and he told me, “It could be tonight,” but still, when I grabbed the phone from the bedside table and saw Gus’s Mom on the caller ID, everything inside of me collapsed. She was just crying on the other end of the line, and she told me she was sorry, and I said I was sorry, too, and she told me that he was unconscious for a couple hours before he died” (pg. 261). This quote stood out to me because that is sad to have the love of your life just die. That could make a person cause suicide even if they read it in a book. That’s just a unbelievable thing to day eight days after his prefuneral. I was very confused on why Augustus died before Hazel did that was very confusing to me. Why couldn’t Augustus have the same amount of time with his life like Hazel Grace did? But like Peter Van Houten said some infinites are bigger than other infinites. That is a very smart saying but those kinds of things happen.

  8. The quote that was caught my attention in this chapter was when Hazel posted on the website that " We live in a universe devoted to the creation, and eradication, of awareness. Augustus Waters did not die after a lengthy battle with cancer. He died after a lengthy battle with human consciousness, a victim—as you will be—of the universe’s need to make and unmake all that is possible." This quote was important because of the meaning. I say this because technically he did die from a battle against cancer but what she was trying to say was that in her opinion she was really killed by the universe because decided that it was his time to go like some type of God. While in a real world way she is wrong but when you think about it figuratively she would be correct because this would be the presence of the universe being shown by using Augustus death as a example.

  9. Chapter 21
This was a sad chapter. An quote I thought was ironic was “Augustus Waters died eight days after his pre-funeral, at Memorial, in the ICU, when the cancer, which was made of him, finally stopped his heart, which was also made of him”. I thought that was ironic because Gus knew that he did not have much time left, so he made them useful and he went and planed his own funeral. There is different ways different people deal with grief/ death like some may get depressed or sad and some may act as if it does not hurt them but deep down it really hurts.

  11. “We live in a universe devoted to the creation, and eradication, of awareness. Agustus Waters did not die a lengthy battle with cancer he died after a lengthy battle with human consciousness, a victim-as you will be- of the universe’s need to make and unmake all that is possible.” I personally think this quote means that Hazel blames the universe for Augustus death, its like a force of nature that society has on people who suffer from cancer. She feels the world is evil but in reality she feels that Augustus is battling with his self and human consciousness.

  12. To me Chapter 21 was the saddest and was the a chapter that i can really realate to. I know when people read my journals even though i think thats creepy and a little weird they come to me and say " Kenisha your journals be making me want to cry and be having me all down." Well sorry because this book really gives me times where i can write about my grandmother or mainly my mother. When i say times where i can write about them i mean, about how he was going to die and about his death and about the cancer they each had. My grandmother on my fathers side died from what Isacc and Hazel had. She would wear a pirate badge thing over her left eye because they took it out, she would also drag around a little oxygen tube and the things on her nose that would go around her ears. But to get to it a qoute that made me stop and think about the past was, Finally I did call him. His phone rang five times and then went to voice mail. “You've reached the voice mail of Augustus Waters...” I did the same thing after my mom passed away becaus ei thought it wasnt real and they were just lying to me because i was just on the phone with her the day before. I would run up stairs and cry and call her so i can come over like she promised. But she wouldn't answer the phone. I really didn't hit me because i had just seen her and was on the phone with her. But on April, 18, 2013 i had went to the funeral and thats when it hit, she really gone, she won't come back, she wouldn't see you walk across the stage, she wouldn't you go to prom and most of all she wouldn't see me grow up to become the beautiful woman she had made and raised. I know this might sound a little weird but i dont care. Still to this day i would call her and listen to her voicemail so i would never forget her voice and i would leave her a message so she will never forget mines. My aunt keeps her phone locked up in a room where only she knows where it is.

    Love, Kenisha

  13. Chapter 21 was one of the saddest and depressing chapter that I have read so far. The quote that I picked from chapter 21 was, “We live in a universe devoted to the creation, and eradication, of awareness “We live in a universe devoted to the creation, and eradication, of awareness. Agustus Waters did not die a lengthy battle with cancer he died after a lengthy battle with human consciousness, a victim-as you will be- of the universe’s need to make and unmake all that is possible.” I picked this quote because it shows how the consciousness and the opinions of people had a dramatic affect on how Augustus wanted to live his life. This shows why Augustus believed that living a long and meaningful life was important. Augustus was so concerned that the universe would ignore the life that he lived because he was a cancer kid and focus more on his illness than his actual life. I also think this quote contributes to the fact that Augustus left Hazel at thate airport because of the way people would stare at him. I would feel the same as Hazel if I were to read the comments left on Augutus' page. I personally think that Augustus didn't die from a lengthy battle of cancer, I think he died from knowing that he wouldn't be able to do anything courageous and heroic with his life.

  14. One of the quotes that I chosen from chapter twenty one was when Hazel says to herself that "the only person I wanted to talk to about Augustus Waters death was Augustus Waters." The reason I had chose the choose this quote was because it was one of those unique quotes from the novel. This quote is also very sad because this shows a little depression in Hazel knowing that she can't talk to Augustus but to still say that is sad. My reaction to this quote was surprise because I wasn't expecting Hazel to say something so deep out of know where, but I think that soon she will be able to talk to Augustus and they will be happily together forever. Another quote that I had chosen from the chapter twenty one was when Hazel says to herself "Augustus Waters died eight days after his prefuneral at memorial, in the ICU when the cancer, which was made of him finally stopped his heart, which was mad of him."I think that this quote means maybe sometimes something you love can be the one or thing that kills you. I think that this quote was upsetting to Hazel because it was just like seeing him eight days ago with hazel and him cracking jokes and know he's just died and not alive with the blue eyes that Hazel used to always talk about. This sort of reminds remind me of my grandmother and me. She died in 2011 and I remember the last day I saw her I made her laugh and she was smiling, struggling to breath but breathing and then next day she was dead not living and smiling with the smile that lit up the room.

  15. Chapter 21 is very sad and a chapter that I can really relate to. One quote that stood out for me is "The pleasure of remembering had been taken from me, because there was no longer anyone to remember with". This quote stood out to me because its hard for the one you lost and spent the most time with they made you most joy and shared the most memories with. Once you find that special person to share so many memories with and something happens to them you dont feel as much joy or happiness. I can relate to this quote because I had a special person that I told everything too. It was my aunt and my granddad but my granddad died and my aunt moved to atlanta. She knew me like the back of her hand and my granddad knew me very well too. Hazel found someone that made her happy but once he died she didnt think that memories would matter because there isnt any joy without that special person.

  16. In chapter 21 a line i like is "Augustus waters died eight days after his prefuneral." I like this line because its sad and I never thought of him dying. I personally thought that Hazel was going to die first . I wanna know if she's going to die before the book ends. I also want to know why the author put this line as the first sentence in the chapter. I was expecting that type of line closer to the end. In this chapter I was surprised that Peter van Houten showed up at the funeral. I didn't see that coming at all. He was a douche to them do why show your face a moment when people are grieving? It makes no sense to me.

  17. "...he died after a lengthy battle of human conscuioussness" I chose this quote because of how and why Hazel said it. She was on Gus's Facebook page and saw all the comments and the condolences and she saw one that made her a little mad. The one that (or the ones that) said he (Gus) died of a lengthy battle of cancer. Sure their cancer battle has occurred in most of their lives but they didn't die of or because of cancer they died of their own bodies. Cancer is made of them and it just wants to live just like they want to live.
