  1. A quote I like is " Hazel is such an inspirarion to me, she really is. She just keep fighting the battle". I like this quote, because I think it is nice, that Hazel know someone looks up to her. Hazel.can help the girl keep fighting, so Hazel have something postive she did, instead of thinling negative and wlrry anoit death. Another quote I like is " I'll give you my strength a nd.I can have youe remission. Hazel is very sarcastic, and just say whats on her mind. I do not think Hazel know how satcadtiv she can be. I thi.k Hazel got het sarcasm when she got cancer, just to have something to say

  2. Chapter 9
The quote that stands out to me is “Twelve-year-old leukemic Michael had passed away. He’d fought hard, Lida told me, as if there was another way to fight” (pg. 129). This quote stood out to me because Hazel new that Michael was going to die from the way he goes on the elevator rather than the stairs. This quote also stands out to me because Hazel said that Lida told her, why wouldn’t Patrick tell everyone? This quote also stood out to me because he was only twelve years old and he died from cancer, but the good/ positive part of Michael is he fought hard, they didn’t say he give up. Another quote that stands out to me is “I’m a lot better now,” I said. “I’m going to Amsterdam tomorrow with Gus.” “I know. I’m pretty well up-to-date on your life, because Gus never. Talks. About. Anything. Else” (pg.130). This quote stands out to me because that’s real love. It’s real love because if that’s all you think of when you go home or somewhere and talk to your friends that person cares very much about you. This quote also stands out to me because it’s good to know that Hazel and Augustus is ready to go somewhere new or have a little adventure. This quote is very unique for example when the author said “Gus never. Talks. About. Anything. Else”. That’s the unique part about the whole quote Augustus cares about making Hazel blush, just overall being close to Hazel. Marqese.

  4. Chapter 9 summary
This chapter is about Hazel going back to the support group for the first time since she met Augustus Waters. During the support group meeting Lida fills her in with what’s new in the support group, next Hazel see Isaac and has a small conversation with him then the support group meeting gets started. So Hazel zoned out until she hears Lida saying her name and Lida says “Hazel is such an inspiration to me, she really is. She just keeps fighting the battle” so then Hazel tells her that she can have her strength if she can have her remission then she zones out again until the of the support group. Lida comes to apologize to Hazel but Hazel just said ok and then talks to Isaac. She goes to Isaac’s house and plays a video game. I like that Augustus likes to save the prisoners and lose the game but in order to win the game they need to leave prisoners and when they win the game the prisoner will be free but he just want to “die” for saving them. A quote that I enjoyed was when Isaac says “I know. I’m pretty well up-to-date on your life, because Gus never. Talks. About. Anything. Else”. I like this quote because it shows that Augustus really likes Hazel and can’t stop thinking or talking about her. I think it’s funny that Hazel does not want to Isaac Augustus but I don’t that Isaac really did anything to Monica but that just my opinion.

  5. The quote I choose for chapter 9 was "Living our best life today." I think this quote means that a person should really live their life to the fullest because you don't know if you could die that day. I can relate this quote because I feel that anybody and everybody should live their life to the fullest because nobody in the whole world is promise the next day. This quote can relate to the novel because Hazel feels that she has to live everyday as her best because she doesn't know what day she is going to die but she thinks she is going to die soon because she has cancer.

In this chapter hazel goes to her support group one more time before flying to amsterdan. She goes there and Isaac is also there and hes blind. Not too long ago he could see and that showed me to be very grateful for what I have because it can be gone in a matter of time. In her support group a girl named lida compliments hazel and says shes strong and shes a survivor who keep go to war with her cancer. Hazel characterizes lida as A cancer free , blong girl who swims for her highschool. Shes a normal teenager if not better in hazels eyes. In responce hazel says she would give lida her strength if she could have Lids remission. Others in the support group took hazels comment negatively. If I were hazel i would think the same. I didn't think hazel was a bad person for saying that. It was true. After support group Isaac and hazel goes to Isaacs house to play video games. They are talking about why hazel just dosen't be in a relationship with agustus. Isaac think hazel is afraid that agustus will dump her. But the truth is that hazel doesn't want to hurt agustus. Shes fighting cancer and theres a possibility that hazel can die. She is afraid of doing that to agustus. This is my least favorite part of the chapter. its sad that she cannot be in a regular relationship because of her cancer and the effects. I wonder what will happen in amsterdan and if everything will turn out okay.

  7. “I’ll give you my strength if I can have your remission.” This is my favorite quote for this chapter. I like this quote because I get where she is coming from. Like why is Lida there if she’s all better and still at support group. I would feel the exact same way Hazel feels. I probably would’ve said something worse if I were Hazel. I hope that Lida lives happily ever after and all but it really feels like she’s rubbing her remission in Hazel’s face. I admire the fact that she’s inspired by Hazel’s fight but come on she knew that statement was going to come out wrong. I don’t mean to sound so self-centered but that’s just my opinion. I think somebody else besides Hazel would’ve taken offense to that to too but they just not trying to say it. But all in all I like Lida because she fought and she won so that means that she is a very strong person. Would you take offense to that statement? To me this statement really shows us that Hazel wants to be healthy so that she could get her life back. I know she knows that her friends miss her. I just really want her to get back out in the world and live her life and at least try to be happy before and if she dies. Hey, maybe even that’ll get that off her mind. Besides she and Augustus are practically made for each other and they don’t even know it.

  8. "Living our best life today." that was the quote that stood out to me the most because it made me think that the quote wasn't just for the dying. It (to me) is for the “well” and not just for the terminally ill. If I were to “live my best life today” I wouldn’t be the shy and ego small girl that I am. Hazel gives me mixed signals. “We said this stupid mantra together—LIVING OUR BEST LIFE TODAY…” Does Hazel not believe in the “mantra”? If so then how come has she allowed herself to fall for Augustus? Yes she says that she thinks the saying is stupid but when she went to Augustus house she saw all the encouragements and she thought that they were nice. Or did she? Its hard to tell because Hazel hides her feelings a lot and even though the book is written from her point of view I feel like that John Green has left some things behind about what she felt. John Green is an excellent author, giving us a perspective of a girl but hiding the most “key points” (or the thoughts that picks our brains and makes us think) whilst giving her perspective well enough that we allow it to slip past our minds as the reader of his awesome writing. Hazel gives me the feeling that she wants to live her best life today but she sees how that will get you. The other people in the support group believe in the saying and yet they die or (in Hazel’s mind not mine) they are weak.

  9. In this chapter you basically get 2 important updates that's happening throughout the story. For example you learn about the 12 year old kid who lost his fight with leukemia and the remission that Lida have of her cancer. It’s kind of sad that the little kid died but also good. It's a good thing because he no longer has to suffer through the war he had against leukemia. Michael didn't ask to have leukemia but he ended up having so the fact that he fought means something. Everyone is not as lucky as Lida. Lida was able to have remission of her cancer (If I’m saying it correctly). When Hazel acted so rude when Lida asked for the strength of Hazel and she just said give her remission and she will give her the strength. Even though Hazel said that I don't think Hazel meant to said that not just because of how it mentioned she regretted saying that in the book. But I think this because Hazel is jealous. Hazel is jealous because unfortunately she still has to live with her cancer and there is nothing she can do about that which is unfortunately true. Hazel still has not fully accepted the fact that she still has to live with the cancer. Throughout the book I think will become more wise and learn to cope with the fact she have to deal with her cancer for the rest of her life.

  10. “You don’t want to give him something he can’t handle. You don’t want him to Monica you he said”. This quote stands out to me because I understand what Isaac is trying to say. The reason he may said that because of what happen between him and Monica far as her breaking up with him because his issues were too much to handle for her. It might have still had an effect on him since he really loved her. I honestly wouldn’t want the same thing to happen to me either. Another quote that stood out to me is stated “I’ll give you my strength if you give me your remission”. This quote also stands out to me because Lida is inspired by Hazel because she fighting her cancer. Hazel had taken it the wrong but I understand what she was trying to say. Since Hazel has cancer and Lida doesn’t, Hazel wishes to have her free cancerness. If I was her I wish to have what Lida has because she can live without having months to live. She can just have years and years and she can go to a regular school. But while Hazel having cancer she depress a lot and she worries about dying. Even though I don’t have cancer sometimes I wish cancer never existed. Sometimes I wish any disease that’s going to cause you to live for months shouldn’t exist. Cancer and other disease such as HIV/AIDS and all others diseases are the worst diseases to catch because first they’re hard to cure and it’s risking someone life in death.

  11. The quote I chose was “I know what you are trying to do. You don’t want to give him something he can’t handle. You don’t want him to Monica you, “he said “Kinda“ I said. But it wasn’t that that. The truth was I didn’t want to Isaac him.” Hazel meant that she didn’t want to die and he feels sympathetic and probably never love again because of her what the is saying that Isaac and Monica was in love until Isaac to get surgery to get his eye removed and went blind and Monica broke up with him because she couldn’t take him being blind she was very hurt. So, Hazel doesn’t want to hurt Gus because of her illness. Hazel didn’t tell Isaac the truth because she didn’t want to be mean or rude to him because they were friends. Hazel hated to feel sympathetic for Isaac but that’s all she could do because his girlfriend broke up with him and he is blind. Another quote I chose was “She just keeps fighting the battle, waking up every morning and going to war without complaint. She’s so strong. She’s so much stronger than I am.” Lida is inspired by Hazel because she fights for her life and deals with her illness. Hazel is like a role model to Lida. She believes in Hazel. Lida is dealing with cancer and doesn’t know how to deal with it so she looks up to Hazel for hope. Hazel doesn’t know what to do because she probably never had anybody look up to her before. Hazel is a little jealous of Lida too because she thinks she’s prettier than her.

  12. Chapter wasn't a lengthy chapter with a lot of quotes to pick from, but I did end up finding one that stood out to me. The quote that stuck out to me in Chapter nine was,"I'm not saying it was your fault. I'm saying it wasn't nice.I picked this quote because I understand what it means. There have been times where things out my control has caused reactions. For instance, when I tore my ACL I left my basketball disappointed, because they needed me. It wasn't my fault; I had no control over the ligaments in my knee. I don't believe that what happened to me was nice to my team, but I don't see how I should be the one to blame. I felt like Isacc when this happened. My team and I made a promise to one another. That promise was to stay healthy the entire season because we needed each other. I broke that promise, but unlike Isacc I didn't have to pay the price. My team had to pay the price because the team became shorter. I didn't really feel bad because it wasn't like I did it intentionally. My down fault wasn't as bad as cancer, but it still caused a reaction.

  13. "She just keeps fighting the battle, waking up every morning and going to war without complaint. She's so strong. She's so much stronger than I am". This quote has a lot to do with people lives with illnesses because people with other illness maybe be doing better than the other so they get mad and be very depressed. This also ties to other people's life without illnesses being you can just get depressed with people just being better than you or in a better position than you. This quote stood out to me because of life itself is cruel life is about joy happiness everyone has a purpose of living, but the world we live in is so judgemental. This quote also stood out to me because she is getting up no matter how she feels to push through her tough times and hard work without complaining on how hard it is. Personally in my life I get up no matter what my problem are but I push them behind me and get on with my life to push through my tough times to go forward into life. Pushing forward is the best way to move in life

  14. In chapter nine a line that I liked was "I know what your trying to do. You dont want to give him something he cant hadle. You dont want him to Monica you." he said. This line is taking about Hazel and Augustus. Hazel doesn't want Augustus to get hurt if she ends up dying or if something bad happens, he may not be able to handle that. Isaac things that she doesn't want Gus to Monica her. Monica left Isaac when he was art a bad time. That's what he's referring to when he says that. I personally think that if your in a bad state of health that being with somebody isn't wrong. The fact that you know that your going to die or get sicker is kind of unfair to your partner. I say that because they might fall in love with you and then bad things happen that can tear them apart.
Another line in chapter nine that I liked was "living our best life today. " To me this line or quote means that your should always line your life to the fullest or best, you never know when you might die. The kids in the support group could die any day at any time. Everyone should live their best life everyday. Both of these lines are very interesting, I can't exactly relate to the first one but i know the meaning of it. The second line I could because I live My life to My fullest extent. I do that because everybody dies and you don't know when its your time. Your Time could be tomorrow, tonight in a another hour nobody knows.

  15. one quote i chose from chapter 9, is " living our best lives today". I chose this quote because it stands out to me. It stands out to me because i think its a great quote and its very inspiring. For the peole to have cancer in the group, i believe that could lift someones spirit or make their day. I like to put myself in another persons position or situation to consider how they might feel and if i had cancer, just hearing that encouragement everyday could put a smile on my face because I would never know when My time is up. Another quote that stood out to me was "Hazel is such a inspiration to me, she really is." i chose this quote because I think it was the way Hazel responded. Hazel responded so negatively, she acted like she didnt really care that she inspired somebody, but to me, I feel like it should be a big deal to Hazel considering her own situation and how she thinks her lungs "suck". I also think she responded the wrong way because rhe person who said that hazel was an inspiration to them, their cancer was in remission for a while. Hazel should have been very happy to know that someone wanted to be like her & was a inspiration to her, but she was very nonchalant about it. -Tiara Haynesworth
