  1. “I don’t care if the New York Time writes an obituary for me. I just want you to write one,” I told him. “You say you’re not special because the world doesn’t know about, that’s an insult to me. I know about you.” This is so sad. Why are they writing eulogies for each other? They didn’t even die yet. But if anybody should write their eulogies they should write each other’s. This chapter was about the change that Gus’s body is going through and how he’s not the same person he used to be. She also had to watch him humiliate himself by peeing on himself. That must’ve been so embarrassing for him; I wouldn’t want to witness that, AT ALL! If I were Hazel I don’t think I could be this strong as Haze is. I mean, I wouldn’t give up on him because there is always a possibility that his doctors can find a cure or a treatment that can save his life, but it’s just hard. I wish he would’ve told her sooner so that they could’ve been started messing with each other like this. After all they did take each other’s virginities. It’s getting really hard to read this book because it is starting to remind me of my mother and the possibility of getting cancer but I know I can’t worry about it because God has me and my mother is resting comfortably in heaven with my father. But I hope Hazel gets through this.

  2. "When I came back down, he was slowly waking up out of the narcotics to the excruciating day. I arranged his pillows so we could play Counterinsurgence on the bare sheet less mattress, but he was so tired and out of it that he sucked almost as bad as I did, and we couldn't go five minutes without both getting dead. Not fancy heroic deaths either, just careless ones." The words Hazel used to describe this scene is really scary and it made me sad. It's like everything around her concerning Augustus is falling apart. The words in this scene is so strong, she creates a vivid enough picture for the reader to feel sympathy for Augustus and actually see his pain. Nothing is about o r even concerning Hazel anymore. Right now, she can be considered healthy. Another quote I chose says “I've pissed the bed, Gus, believe me. It’s no big deal.” “You used,” he said, and then took a sharp breath, “to call me Augustus.” This scene is also upsetting. Augustus feels that Hazel is changing towards him since she just witnessed him pee in the bed. I didnt expect that line from Augustus, and neither did Hazel. Hazel is being the strong one to support Augustus, which from the beginning of the book, you could never tell. She is making big significant changes throughout the book and so is Augustus. Its so sad what Augustus is going through and I know Hazel is supporting him with everything that happens to him.

  3. The quote that stands out to me best is stated “ I don’t care if the New York Times writes an obituary for me, I just want you to write one” This quote stands out to me because I feel that Hazel wants Augustus to write her an obituary because the obituary may mean something for the both of them. If no one will have legacy for her, she know that Augustus will. The obituary may show that when Hazel does passes away the love that Augustus have for her will still be alive. The obituary may also show the memories Augustus and Hazel will have together and the remembrance of how she was as an illness person. The sad thing about is that Augustus may not be able to write her one because of his illness. I think it’s sweet for him to write her one because it will be just something special. But if I was Hazel I would love someone like my mom or dad to write me an obituary because I know it will definitely mean something to them. It will show them even though I’m not her I’m still here. It would show them good and memories since I had most of my memories with them. The up’s and down’s would still be around to talk about. Maybe that’s also why Hazel wants Augustus to write her an obituary. Augustus would have memories to tell to his parents and other relatives. Their love will remain strong no matter what.

  4. The quote that stands out to me the most is ”I arranged his pillows so we could play Counterinsurgence on the bare sheetless mattress, but he was so tired and out of it that he sucked almost as bad as I did, and we couldn’t go five minutes without both getting dead. Not fancy heroic deaths either, just careless ones. I didn’t really say anything to him. I almost wanted him to forget I was there, I guess, and I was hoping he didn’t remember that I’d found the boy I love deranged in a wide pool of his own piss. I kept kind of hoping that he’d look over at me and say, “Oh, Hazel Grace. How’d you get here?” But unfortunately, he remembered. “With each passing minute, I’m developing a deeper appreciation of the word mortified, “he said finally. “I’ve pissed the bed, Gus, believe me. It’s no big deal.”” You used,” he said, and then took a sharp breath, “to call me Augustus.”(pg. 239-240). This quote stood out to me the most because I never seen a nice girlfriend like Hazel to play the game with. Every girlfriend I had thought that video games were immature and childish, but Hazel is actually interacting with the activity of playing the game. And I know how Augustus feels right now with being tired of playing the game, just ready to quit and go back to sleep. I also know how embarrassing it is to pee on yourself and better yet have your girlfriend with you it’s embarrassing, but I love the way Hazel is sticking right beside him that is the best part.

  5. A qoute i like is "he pissed the bed it was awful. I couldnt even lokk, really. I like that quote because i can tell gus is gtting sicker as the days go on . Hael dont wat him ti die but shr just want tosoend time with him. Anothet qoute i like is no, im sorry, your right". I like tjis quote because gus dont want to agure.with haxel he jusy want to spend his lasy days with het. I get sxared as o get closer to his deayh i.the book

  6. A quote that I like from chapter 17 is "This can never be enough for you. But this is all you get. You get me, and your family in this world. This is your life. I'm sorry if it sucks. But you're not going to be the first man on Mars, and you're not going to be an NBA star and you're not going to hunt Nazis. I mean, look at yourself." This is my favorite quote from chapter 17 because it is telling how Hazel is tired of Augustus trying to change his life and make it seem as though he is fine and healthy. Augustus is sick and Hazel wants him to know that he cannot change his life. He is stuck with his life whether he likes his life or not, He is stuck with it. He's stuck with the cancer, and the one leg, he is stuck with it all, and he needs to recognize that. He needs to notice that nothing will ever change in his life, so he just has to deal with it.

  7. "I don't care if the New York Times writes an obituary for me. I just want you to write one". This quote stands out to me because Augustus wants Hazel to write an obituary for him because he is dying but Hazel's obituary will mean more to him. This reminds me of when I told my sister to tell my mom something because I tell my sis everything no matter ehat she is still there for me. Hazel means alot to Augustus and Augustus mrans alot to Hazel they are attached to each other. They both have never loved someone like how they love each other. If Hazel writes the obituary she can reflect on the memories they had and there future they were thinking about.

  8. I mean, look at yourself." I like this line because Hazel is trying to make a point to Gus. He wants to make it seem like hes healthy and he could do anything in the world. He cant so Hazel wants him to stop. It hurts her to say but its true and he needs to hear the truth. The truth hurts but everybody needs to know it. When I tell people about them selves and speak the truth it may hurt their feelings but they need to know. I might feel bad but we get over things.

  9. A quote that I picked from chapter 16 was, "I just wanted to be enough for you, but i never can be. This can never be enough for you. But this is all you get. You get me, and your family, and this world. This is your life. I'm sorry if it sucks. But you're not going to be the first man on Mars, and you're not going to be an NBA star, and you're not going to hunt Nazis. I mean, look at yourself, Gus." I picked this quote because it relates to my motto, which is true hurts. The words that Hazel just told Augustus was the truth, but it could have hurt him. The way Augustus lives is a fantasy; He believes that everything he does has to be heroic and worth living for. Hazel brought his life back to reality with this quote. I understand that Augustus wants to be remembered when he dies, but most things are considered dreams instead of realities. As kid everyone has a dream career or something that they would prefer to do with their lives, those dreams start to fade or change as that child gets older. I think that Augustus' dreams were so broad because he was a cancer kid and his only real and true dream was to be remembered once he dies.

  10. "I just want to be enough for you but i never can be"
this quote is like an romantic quote because hazel expresses her feelings to Augustus. she tells him her true feelings about what she feels as though she feels deep down inside. I think that Augustus is kind of like feeling bad because of what hazel has just said to him. hazel also feels bad because she said that she wasn't going to fall for Augustus but she did and now they love each other. this quote is so cute to me because hazel really loves Augustus. "I don't care if the new York times writes an obituary for me, i just want you to write one for me". this quote is cute because she wants a special one made from Augustus which is the person that she loves. also i think that Augustus should write one and put some special touches in it.

  11. Chapter 17
Now this was a sad chapter, Hazel goes over to Augustus's house and discovers that he's wet him himself in the middle of the night. Augustus is embarrassed when he wakes up and realizes that Hazel was there to witness it all. He confides in her that he had always hoped that he would have an exciting life and a special obituary. Hazel tells him that she wants him to write an obituary for her. I predicted that Gus does not think he will make it to hazel’s funeral. That’s why he doesn’t want to write Hazel’s obituary. That makes her sad.

  12. The quote that stood out to me was "I just wanted to be enough for you, but I never can be. This can never be enough for you. But this is all you get. You get me, and your family, and this world. This is your life. I'm sorry if it sucks. But you're not going to be the first man on Mars, and you're not going to be an NBA star, and you're not going to hunt Nazis. I mean, look at yourself, Gus." This quote stands out because this look like a snapping point for Hazel. She finally told Gus the truth about himself. Even though Gus already knew the truth I know he felt terrible hearing it from the person he loves. It's a good thing that Hazel did because it snapped some since into Gus and probably made him start thinking about his future in a way that is more possible since he is terribly sick and is on the final days of his time on Earth. Gus needed to here this from someone who was very close to him and Hazel is the perfect person for that. But it’s all true though. We all know GUs can't do all those crazy things because look at him as he says he is a walking skeleton. He basically sees himself as already being dead which is sad.

  13. “I don’t care if the New York Time writes an obituary for me. I just want you to write one,” I told him. “You say you’re not special because the world doesn’t know about, that’s an insult to me. I know about you.” This is so sweet of Hazel to tell Augustus this plus it’s very sad to because Hazel thinks she’s going to die before Augustus does. Even though Hazel is unknown she is known by Augustus. Nobody knows Hazel like Augustus does but her parents so she wants him to write her a special Augustus Waters obituary. She really loves Augustus and really cares about him and that’s the same way Augustus feels about her. They are truly in love. They each other like a book even though they haven’t knew each other that long they just had that beautiful connection together. I can reflect to this because I don’t know about true love but from what I heard about is Hazel and Augustus relationship is the best example for the term “Love”. It is sad that one of them could die any minute and leave the other person forever but that’s how life is you never know when it’s your time to leave this earth.

  14. The line I picked from “the fault on our stars” chapter 17 is “I arranged his pillows so we could play counterinsurgence on the bare sheetless mattress, but he was so tired and out of it that he sucked almost as bad as I did, we couldn’t go five minutes without both of us getting dead”. This shows a symbol of weakness because when he plays the game with her he usually get past five minutes of the game. This also shows that hazel care for Augustus because she visited him every day he was in the hospital. Another line from chapter 17 was when Augustus said “you know, after a while, its kids’ stuff, but I always thought my obituary would be in the newspaper, that I’d have a story worth telling, I always had this secret suspicion that I was special. Augustus wants his obituary to be in the newspaper because he wants everybody to know who he was. He also thinks that nobody know him. Hazel takes that offensive because she knows him and that just made her feel bad.

In this chapter Hazel goes over agustuses house and she finds that he wet the bed. Agustus is really embarrassed. This reminds me of when hazel was really sick and Agusuts came to visit he at the hospital and shewas worried about how she looked and things like that. Then Agustus starts to talk about Legacy and how he wanted a special life and obituary. My favorite quote is when he tells he her he wants her to write about him in his obituary and she says "Okay". To me that's really special that she gets to have a word about his legacy when he dies Though his legacy wasn't huge I think he had a very strong legacy to Hazel. He changed he a lot. At the beginning of the book she was crappy and always in a bad mood. It seems as when she's with Agustus she's happy and healthier. My least favorite part about this is that Agustus knows he's destined to die and Hazel has to deal with death also. It's sad teens at there age has to think about death occurring at such a early age. I predict that when Agustus dies Hazel will not take it lightly and she will go back to her old cranky ways.

  16. I picked when hazel is telling gus what he cant be and he comes back and say" no I'm sorry, your right." I think that means that gus has already cam to realize that his life on this planet is going to be very short and all thing that he had plan to do when he gets older he is not going to be able to do those things because he has cancer and he might die before he can even reach the age. that why gus says he is sorry.

  17. Quote: “I don’t care if the New York Time writes an obituary for me. I just want you to write one,”
The reason I pick this quote because it seems that Augustus feels the pain and he want to stop and he sound so harsh because he wants to die right now. In addition, he wants to rush his death and he knows he is dying and he wants his funereal now because of the pain and he cannot explain the pain to know no one else because they are not in his body that is what he sounds like. I can tie this to myself because I was in pain with my family because my aunt she has stage 4 cancer and it really broken down the family a lot and know everyone is worried about her and we really care and she is not giving up she is trying to beat it. In addition, we want her to live as long as she can but we know we all have to go some day but we pray for her everyday so I say take care of you and do not give up keep on until it comes true.

  18. The quote I chose from chapter seventeen was when Augustus told Hazel Grace "I don't care if the new york times writes an obituary for me. I just you to write one." This quote really stood out to me because it shows the love that Augustus and Hazel share together for gus's last days. This quote is also quite sad because they both have terminal cancer and I think that they should write each others obituarys because they know each other so well and spend evey last day and minute with each other. This quote reminds me of the titanic a little because when jack, roses boyfriend freezes and dies she has to live through that and also with the ship sinking and all of those people dying. I kind of imagine it as the cancer and all the loved one it kills and how many of the people have to live with the deaths. One thing I don't understand about this quote is why is he rushing his funeral and obituary and knowing that hazel also has terminal cancer and can also die at any given moment so what if hazel died before augustus then what? Augustus would then feel sorry forhimself and selfish for really not thimking about hows hazel health conditions are.

  19. The quote that I chose from chapter 17 was " I just wanted to be enough for you but I can never be. This can never be enough for you. But this is all you get. You get me, and your family and this world. This is your life. I'm sorry if it sucks. But your not going to be the first man on Mars, and your'e not going to be an NBA star, and your'e not going to hunt Nazis. I mean, look at yourself, Gus. I chose this quote because I believe that Hazel makes Augustus feel worse about himself. It was true that he wouldn't live long enough to do those things but the way she put it was harsh and she should have said it another way.

  20. “I just want to be enough for you, but I never can be.” This quote means that Augustus wants to be with Hazel and be a better boyfriend to her, but with the cancer he has, Augustus can’t be. He wants to be with Hazel because he really cares about her, but he can’t because he doesn’t have that much time left. Augustus doesn’t want to bring Hazel down because of his sickness. The more he spends time with Hazel, the more he wants things to be normal. He wants to be able to take her to parties, spend time walking in the park, going to the movies and do all the things that other boyfriends do with their girlfriends. Augustus thinks about this all the time and it makes him sad.
